When you think of friends, what do you think of? Do you think of someone who is there to support you, or someone who is always there for you when someone is being , disrespectful? Well to a monkey in Japan, his best friend is a stuffed animal! Punch, also known as Panchi-Kun, is a viral Japanese Macaque (snow monkey) that is held in the Ichikawa City Zoo in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Born in July of 2025, he was abandoned by his mother shortly after birth from pure exhaustion . He was hand-raised by staff workers, especially Kosuke Shikano and Shumpei Miyakoshi. Punch grew very close to Shikano. You could always see Punch waiting for him to walk outside for feeding time. He would cling onto his leg and hang on while he walked around. Not only was he abandoned by his mother, he was also bullied and exiled from the group. The staff saw the bullying, and decided to give Punch a friend. This friend was a stuffed animal fromIKEA, but even though he was a stuffed animal Punch dragged him around everywhere. After getting harassed by the other monkeys, he would run to his stuffed animal for comfort. But don’t worry, Punch has started hanging out with the group more and more, and even got himself a girlfriend! We all hope this adorable monkey continues to make himself into the group more!
