The Canine Awareness small assembly here at NMS focused on teaching proper pet care and the consequences of neglect. The presenter Jessica also shared information on where students can volunteer and donate to local animal shelters. The primary goal was to educate children on responsible pet ownership and how to report animal mistreatment. We are thankful this event took place, as animal abuse is a prevalent issue in our world. It was beneficial because this information taught students essential lessons on how to treat and care for animals.
I have asked Mrs. Dilla some questions and here are her responses!
What was the Canine Awareness about?
Canine Awareness was about how to properly take care of your pets. It covered things like giving them enough food, water, medicine, and a safe place to live. They also talked about what can happen if pets aren’t cared for properly, like if they don’t get the medicine they need, such as heartworm prevention. We also learned about places where students can volunteer and what kinds of donations can be made to animal shelters.
Who attended the assembly?
Mr. Howel’s and Mrs. Dilla’s class.
What was the goal for this event?
The goal of the event was to teach students how to take good care of their pets and help them know what to do or who to call if they see an animal being hurt, not cared for, or running around without its owner.

Brandi was the bigger dog; she is a mixed breed and is 10 years old. The little dog was a terrier mix and his name was Peanut. He’s 8 weeks old and currently has many adoption applications.
