If you think you’re cool by vaping, you might want to think again. I have witnessed vaping (outside of school mostly) and to be honest, it’s pretty gross. Let’s just cut to the chase. Vaping is just plain out dangerous. You don’t really know that you are running the risk of cancer and other impairments or diseases. That’s what some just don’t understand. If you didn’t know, E- Cigarettes aka “vapes” were invented to help people quit smoking. I can honestly believe no one at the age of 13 or 14 is a chronic cigarette smoker. Do you even know what you’re inhaling when you’re vaping? Most vapes have metals such as nickel, iron, and lead which are just a few metals that could lead to lung, liver, heart, or brain damage. A chemical found in E- cigarettes, formaldehyde, is used to embalm dead people… and you’re inhaling that!! Vaping has some pretty terrible long term effects. Inhaling these vapors can weaken your lungs making it harder to breathe. Do you want to be twenty-five and walk up one flight of steps and be out of breath when you reach the top? I don’t know about you but I want to be running up the steps when I’m twenty-five years old, and in the best of shape. Also, vaping may depress your immune system function and raise the chance of not being able to fight off certain cancers, specifically lung cancer. Anyone who has witnessed someone suffer with lung cancer can tell you-it’s absolutely horrible, painful, and sad to see someone’s health truly decline so fast. Now in my opinion, this reason is a “no brainer!” I wouldn’t want to give myself the risk of cancer over something as stupid as vaping. Another effect of vaping is “popcorn lung” or bronchiolitis obliterans. Let’s just stick with “popcorn lung”; this is easier to picture and it looks exactly how it sounds! Your lung’s bubble up like popcorn kernels popping. This condition damages your lungs’ smallest airways. Some signs of popcorn lung are coughing and feeling short of breath. This is from breathing a chemical used to flavor microwave popcorn that is in your vape juice. Did you know that this chemical is tied to lung cancer? Think about the people around you. Other people who vape, we don’t want to inhale your chemicals as you blow them around us. There is nothing attractive about a car filled with vapors as you pick up your date for homecoming or prom. Get a grip! It shouldn’t matter if the vape juice has fun names and flavors such as “unicorn puke.” That name is almost as ridiculous as the act of vaping itself. It is definitely not worth risking your health. Next time you go to inhale these toxins ask yourself, is it really worth it? Lastly, you probably never think of the other effects of vaping, but the device itself exploding is another huge issue. Houses have burnt down, major burns may occur, and even one person died from this. From the article “16 Vaping Horror Stories That Will Make You Think Twice About Vape Pens” a 24 year old from Texas man died from his vape pen exploding and cutting an artery in his neck. Exploding vape pens have also knocked someone’s teeth out and made a hole in his tongue. Another man lost his eye from his vape pen exploding. A family’s house burnt down because their 15-year-old son’s E-cigarette caught his bed on fire and the flames quickly spread throughout their house. You may think you’re cool now or that you really need this “hit” but don’t get taken by all the hype out there. Don’t destroy your life!
