When you’re in sixth grade here at Niles Middle School, you aren’t really a part of many things. Many sports and clubs are limited to only seventh and eighth graders, but Camp Fitch isn’t! Every April, our sixth graders are invited to Lake Erie for a few days of camping. However, there is one rule—NO PHONES! That may sound like a bummer for any preteen/teenager. Anyhow, Camp Fitch manages to make the “no phone” rule fun. There are many activities and group challenges that take place during the day.

For example, there are opportunities to win the “Camp Fitch Flag” everyday the students are there; and yes, multiple groups can win throughout the day. There are many other fun activities like candle making and more.

The sixth graders are divided up between boys and girls, and there were 92 kids who attended this year! The juniors at Niles McKinley High School chaperone our kids in their cabins. Speaking of chaperones… some of our sixth grade teachers and staff at NMS went as well to have a little break.

Many sixth grade teachers go to Camp Fitch. Like Mr. Guerra and Mrs. Clark, they are most often known as the “well fit” teachers so they do go every year to “get some cardio in”.
Teachers and the sixth grade body enjoy their trip to Camp Fitch every year. It gives an opportunity for the sixth graders to feel included in getting a trip. It also gives the teachers a much needed break from teaching and give a sense of relaxation. We hope you had fun!
