A lot of people have weird hobbies that they don’t like to talk about because they think it’s humiliating and people will make fun of them. In my opinion, I don’t think it should be shameful to have a hobby that relaxes you or strays from the typical “video game” hobby. I don’t think it should be embarrassing because I have a hobby that is unusual that I enjoy doing. My obsession is that I like to make origami paper stars.
I started doing these stars in fourth grade when I saw a tutorial on TikTok. I became so interested because I thought it looked fun and let’s face it–I was bored! I took a sheet of lined paper and cut strips. I would do them mostly at the end of class and at home. I finally ended counting how many I made, and much to my astonishment I had around 1,000. I threw them all away because the lined paper wasn’t good enough. I decided to buy actual star paper that is already cut and comes in many colors, which saves a lot of time. It is definitely cheaper to use lined paper, but if you want it to be straight, star paper is the way to go.
I personally love making these because it helps with anxiety and stress. It assists me because I overthink every small. When I make stars, my thoughts are relaxed and I don’t think about anything; I block out the world so-to-speak. I believe a lot of kids need to have a hobby that can take them away from the frustration of everyday life. Making paper stars can also help kids get away from “screen time.” In today’s world, most students are glued to their phone or computer screen. This is a good way to just make the stars while listening to nature or how about this: just the quietness of no one in the house but you!
So next time you get stressed or frustrated and you don’t know what to do, pick up some paper and get folding!
