Everything Taylor Swift seems to touch turns to gold, and this holds true for her newly released album The Tortured Poets Department.
If you know me, you know I love Taylor Swift and on April 19, 2024 her new album was released. This new album is by-far one of my favorites. The lyrics and the theme of the album in general is amazing. The Tortured Poets Department is one of my favorite albums because it’s different. I say this album is different because it’s poetry. It isn’t often when you see a songwriter publish 31 songs; writing about her “tortured poetry” for the last two years! And, that is one thing that makes this album special to me. I personally like this album mostly because of her lyrics. In a post, posted by Taylor herself, she says “The Tortured Poets Department is an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure.”
Now, if I’m being honest I actually have no idea what most of those words mean, but I do know that this proves that these lyrics are inspiring. A lyric that really stands out to me is a quote coming from my favorite song, I Can Do It With A Broken Heart. The quote says “They said, baby, you gotta fake it ‘til you make it and I did.” This lyric to me means that even when you’re going through a hard time, people still expect things from you and you have to do what is told. You have to continue to keep putting yourself out in the world and making everyone else happy by acting like nothing is going on in your personal life behind doors.
There is something though that makes this album EXTRA unique– It’s a secret double album! At 2 am on the album release date (April 19,) she told the world that there are an extra 15 songs of the TTPD called The Anthology! For her fans, an extra 15 songs is incredible after we were already given an entire album full of wonderful and meaningful songs.
FUN FACT: She is the first songwriter on Spotify to get 300 million streams in one day!
I’m not saying you need to like Taylor or you must buy all of her records or listen to her music, but I definitely do suggest you listen to a couple of them. You don’t have to like her, but absolutely no one can deny her talent and the power she has when it comes to her music. Overall, this was a masterpiece coming from the one and only, Taylor Swift.
